Garston Manor School Specialist School for Autism, Learning Difficulties
and Speech and Language
Literacy/English
At KS3 all pupils are given the opportunity to develop their skills in speaking and listening, reading and writing, and to learn about the language itself. Through topic work, pupils are encouraged to put these skills into practice through a wide variety of learning situations, enabling them to become independent learners. The wide range of oral work supported reading sessions and structured writing activities enable pupils to develop a firm foundation of skills for the courses they follow at KS4.
KS4 English focuses upon developing pupils’ abilities to communicate effectively in speech and writing, and provide them with the essential language skills needed for everyday life. All pupils follow the AQA Entry Level English course whilst some also follow the Edexcel GCSE English course.
All pupils are encouraged to make independent use of the school’s extensive library facilities.
