All students in years 7, 8 and 9 have 3 Life Skills lessons each week. These lessons are arranged to offer a wide and varied range of topics that will help the students access more of the curriculum in school, help them be more prepared to be successful in school and at home and also be more prepared to tackle the wider community. Examples of the topics covered :

The world of work
Life Skills 2
French – greetings, numbers, days of the week, places in towns, sport, café and clothes
+ Looking after ourselves, travel training, shopping, money, healthy living and finding information.
Life Skills 3
Communication – Reading, writing, speaking and listening
9G follow a Resilience course:
Students are taught resilience throughout the year.
What is it?
When things get tough, some people continue to ‘swim along’ while others ‘nearly sink’. Students who are able to cope through difficult times are more resilient. They bounce back from stressful experiences.
Research has found that people who are able to bounce back live longer, have better health and happier relationships. They are also more successful in school and jobs. Some good news: research also tells us that some of the important skills that help people to bounce back can be learned by anyone. And children learn these skills by watching the adults around them.
Within each lesson, resilience concepts and skills are presented and practiced in a variety of ways. Skills are introduced through skits, role plays, short stories, or cartoons that illustrate the core concepts. Once students have a firm understanding of these concepts, they practice with hypothetical examples that demonstrate how the skill is relevant to real-world situations that they might face. Students discuss situations in which they used, or could have used, the concepts they have just learned.
